Global Youth Dialogue on “Sexual exploitation of Children and Youth”

Together is how we are going to raise our voice, fight our way, and explore our possibilities in eliminating the threat of children and youth violence concerning sexual exploitation and abuse. Our children should never be told that their silence is the answer to heal from abuse and degradation, be it in their house, their school environment, or even through social groups and individuals. Providing the right kind of support to break the negatives and stand up mentally and physically is vital for all children, but that shouldn’t be done behind the doors. Over the years the campaigns and educational programs of many organizations around the world have yet to reach its achievement day by day.

Let us talk, let us share, and let us be the voice of the thousands of voices that aren’t being given the chance to be heard. Their future is in our hands, we can drop it or work for it, you decide!

CAREER DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

Mainstreaming Youth Empowerment Incubation for Inclusive and Sustainable Youth Development Time

Summary of the Workshop Content

The aim of this workshop is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the ideology of Youth Empowerment Incubation (YEI) as a novel approach to promoting inclusive and sustainable youth development. YEI aims to streamline the youth empowerment system of a region, by facilitating parallel focus on top level and bottom level youth development. It is an alternative developmental approach to the Bottom to Top Method of Sustainable Development. Such a parallel empowerment of the youth is conducted through two main avenues. The first is by promoting youth participation in apex level processes relating to youth development such as youth policy formulation and youth infrastructure development. The second avenue is fostering sustainable partnerships amongst the stakeholders of the youth empowerment system of a country or a region, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Number 17. The ideology of YEI is promoted through Youth Empowerment Incubators which act as catalysts for inclusive and sustainable youth development.

Structure of the Workshop

• 10 minutes – Introduction to the Present Realities of Youth Development
• 10 minutes – Breakout Sessions and Group Activity on Critically Examining the Present Approaches to Youth Development
• 15 minutes – Presentation by the Groups
• 10 minutes – Comprehensive Introduction to Youth Empowerment Incubation
• 15 minutes – Discussion on the Macro and Micro Adoption of YEI

a) PowerPoint Presentation (PPTX) – A PPTX will be used by the Speaker to summarize her main speaking points and to present it to the audience. Hence the Organizers will have to make the necessary allowances for the speaker to present her findings via PowerPoint.
b) Breakout Sessions on the Online Platform Used – The Speaker will break out the attendees into 3 to 5 groups based on the number of participants, for the purpose of conducting the Group Activity. Hence the online platform used must facilitate breakout sessions.

WORKING WITH MEDIA AND RADICAL IMAGINATION IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS: FROM THE LOCAL TO THE GLOBAL AND VICE-VERSA

Summary of the Workshop Content

Since 1795 when philosopher Immanuel Kant published his essay on Perpetual Peace there has been much debate on cosmopolitanism i.e., the idea that all human beings to belong to a single “Global” community, based on a shared morality that would apply to all people independently of their races, colours and ethnicities, local histories, gender, age or any other specific characteristics. This proposition has been much criticised by scholars emphasising Otherness – in its different facets: Otherness as a general principle (e.g., in phenomenology), Otherness as a concrete product of the history of colonialism, and Otherness in terms of intersecting age, gender, sexual orientation, class, race, colour, ethnicity and/or dis-/ability.

How do these debates play out in classrooms and educational settings after a global pandemic i.e., in a world that is more interconnected than ever before in the human history, as well as increasingly divided? In this workshop, this question will be explored by revisiting case studies from research projects of Prof. Michalis from the past ten years. Drawing on research from diverse contexts he will explore how to work with media and radical imagination in educational settings. He will discuss how to support disadvantaged children and young people to hyper-connect with each other while remembering common pasts & imagining yet unknown futures across urban and rural educational settings.

CHILDREN’S RIGHTS, PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY AND CHILD PROTECTION IN EARLY CHILDHOOD INTERVENTION

Summary of the Workshop Content

The priority of early life must also be reflected in official documents and legislation on children’s rights. Research on teacher training shows that states generally do not provide human rights in general, nor specifically in children’s rights in teacher training. The aspirations of children’s rights education are much more deeply rooted than just knowledge of children’s rights. The literature review identified possible distortions that many curricula only focus on children’s rights and responsibilities and responsibilities in general terms, and do not draw parallels between the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, children’s rights. The need to recognize, protect and enforce children’s rights as a body of knowledge that can and should be applied in all areas that affect children. Knowledge of children’s rights and an understanding of children’s rights and the solutions can be used in the whole system of justice, child protection, health and education, on an ongoing basis and in everyday life.

The workshop will provide an overview of the approach and solutions to children’s rights and understanding of when and how to take into account the rights and interests of the child.

1. An overview of children’s rights in early childhood and how the curriculum can be integrated into the existing teacher training curriculum at any grade level;
2. The importance of early childhood intervention
3. An interactive demonstration of materials used to introduce the rights outlined in the Convention to children;
4. A brief overview of how to support the teaching of children rights in teacher training.
